CARDIO-RENAL PROTECT: A Phase 3, Randomized, Double-Blind Study of Finerenone-X vs Placebo on Kidney and Cardiovascular Outcomes in Adults with Type 2 Diabetes and CKD

Synopsis. Randomized, placebo-controlled trial adding a once-daily oral non-steroidal MRA to standard of care (including SGLT2 inhibitors) in adults with T2D and moderate CKD.

Goal: Determine whether the study drug slows CKD progression (sustained ≥40% eGFR decline, ESKD, or renal death) and reduces cardiovascular events.
Duration: ~36 months; 9 in-person visits in year 1, then every 4 months. Telehealth allowed for 50% of follow-ups.
Location: University Health Clinical Research Center, Denver, CO (Building 4, 2nd floor). Free parking.
Compensation: $75 per completed visit (up to $1,200) plus mileage reimbursement. Study drug and study labs at no cost.
